The Public Information Officer (PIO) is a fairly new within the Town of Edenton and serves many purposes.
The PIO ensures communication with the public is timely, accurate, and forthright while also managing press releases and media relations as press liaison. This role works with all town departments in sharing information with the public and manages the town's social media presence, community outreach and public relations, newsletter and publication creation, website development and management, multimedia projects, advertising, special event coordination, administrative support, council meeting summaries, graphic design, photography, representation at some events, emergency communications during severe weather and hurricanes, and more.
The Town of Edenton is currently active on Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, and Nextdoor, all communications from these platforms should be considered official. Please note that while these platforms are monitored, any emergencies should be relayed to Chowan County Dispatch (252) 482-4444, 911, or the correct department during business hours (Public Works, Electric, etc).
Currently, Tyler Newman is the Public Information Officer, having served since April 2023.
