Reporting Power Outages

An Edenton Electric lineman working during a tropical storm

Experience a power outage?

Edenton Electric customers who are subject to power outages (that are not planned and announced ahead of time) have an option to report! Our crews are always on standby ready to respond during storms, wind events, and other natural disasters.

On weekdays from 7 AM to 3 PM, customers can call the Edenton Electric office at (252) 482-4414.

After hours or when the office is closed, customers can call Chowan Central Communications (dispatch) at (252) 482-4444. This line is open 24/7/365.

We strive for as little downtime as possible, and our crews work tirelessly to provide excellent service to the community. Please be aware that during storms, if winds are over 35 MPH sustained, crews cannot work safely.

Power Outage Tips:

  • Keep freezers and refrigerators CLOSED. Have enough nonperishable food and water. The refrigerator will keep food cold for about four hours. A full freezer will keep the temperature for about 48 hours. Use coolers with ice if necessary. Monitor temperatures with a thermometer. Throw out food if the temperature is 40 degrees or higher.
  • Use a generator, but ONLY outdoors and away from windows.
  • Do not use a gas stove or oven to heat your home.
  • Disconnect appliances and electronics to avoid damage from electrical surges.
  • Have alternate plans for refrigerating medicines or using power-dependent medical devices.
  • Check with local officials about heating and cooling locations open near you.
