EDENTON -- The Edenton Fire Department will be cooking it up in downtown Edenton this Christmas season, alongside other first responders from across Chowan County!
The first First Responder Christmas Cook-Off is scheduled for Saturday, December 2 during the Kick-Off to Christmas at the downtown waterfront. From 4:30 until the kick-off end, residents and visitors can come out before the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and taste test chili from our Chowan County first responders. The best chili can be awarded a poker chip. The agency with the most poker chips -- after being counted up by Edenton's Public Information Officer -- will win a trophy and hold onto it for the next year!
Participating agencies in this year's yuletide chili-fest include:
- Edenton Fire Department
- Edenton Police Department
- Chowan County Sheriff's Office
- Center Hill-Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department
- Chowan County EMS
- Chowan County 911
The event was drawn up about a month or so prior by members of the Edenton Fire Department, who saw an opportunity to bring all of Chowan's finest together for something we can all agree on: good food.
Cooking challenges may change from year to year as well, our firemen say. Next year could be barbecue, mac and cheese, who knows?
"The Town would like to thank Visit Edenton and Destination Downtown Edenton for being such gracious hosts and working to accommodate the culinary urges of our front-line responders," said Tyler Newman, Public Information Officer. "We hope the public will come out for all of the events that Saturday, and look forward to tasting all of the delicious chili we are sure will be cooked up."
